About a year ago, my trck overheated on the side of the road. After it was diagnosed by a car repair shop, they said that the heads may have been cracked, and that the thermometer needed to replaced. I stripped the engine, replacing the heads and the thermometer while reassembling it, but when I went to start it, nothing happened. I restripped it a second time, making sure I torqued everything to specification of the chev truck repair manual, and now the engine is trying to turn over, but it can't quite turn over all the way. So my question is, what may be wrong with the truck to the point where it won't start?

How would I check to see if I messed up on the lifter adjustment, or the fact that the distributor placement may be incorrect? It's the first truck i've ever worked on, and I only know what I know from the book, so any tips would be appreciated

Pull cylinder no.1 plug rotate engine by hand put finger in plug hole as engine comes up on TDC mark on crank air should expell if not go around one more time. Align mark on crank with 0 on tab. Oull cap is rotor pointing at #1? If not adjust.
As for lifters did you follow proceedure where engine at TDC and adj various valves then rotate do some more and so on? Adjust nut till pushrod stops turning then bask of 1/2 to 3/4 turn?
