Mixture Control Solenoid - Chev Celebrity

I bought my 85 Celebrity wagon with 2.8L MPFI engine new. Now has 177, 00 miles. I changed the Timing chain and pullys at 155,000 miles and had great performance until the problem below occurred recently.

Starts cold but won't turn over when hot. Like the battery is low/dead. I set the timing by the book. It reads right with the electronic advance disconnected and connected. I have low power and it revs to about 3-4k RPM's before the auto trans shifts out of 1st. Lower if I don't push it, but I have to let up on the accelerator for it to shift.

The only new thing is a Code - 54 Mixture Control Solenoid. My Hayes manual shows a M/C solenoid for carburated models, but not my MPFI model.

Does this engine with MPFI use a M/C Solenoid? If not, what could the trouble code mean?

Thanks, Rex Blanton, Spartanburg, SC. This is a daily driver for now. I need it.

Battery. You either need a new one or need to top up the water in yours right now.

Take a look at it. If you have removable caps, take them off. Look down into the cells, see any water?
Yes? Go and have the battery tested.
Green eye type battery? Go get it tested.
NO? Top it up with distilled water only. Drive for a while to recharge it.
If you can purchase a new battery cheap I would do that. Battery cells breakdown on the inside.
Just like any other rechargable battery, they need to be replaced every so often.
Let us know what happens.
