Noises problem
2004 Chevy Cavalier 6 cyl Automatic 77,500 miles

Ive been hearing this grinding noise and finally located that it is coming from the aft right wheel well. The issue is when I put the car in drive and let go of the break the car does not move forward like it should, it leans toward the aft right and when I apply the gas it sounds like a very loud grinding noise until I reach about 5-10 mph this also happens when I start from a redlight or any time im stopped. It doesnt happen when I going around 40 or so but sometimes when I decelerate I hear it again. It feels and sounds like the wheel is going to fall off. If you could please give me some ideas what it sounds like, and also how expensive and how hard is it to change out. Thanks

Hi:
First, are the brakes good? Also, does the sound change when you make turns?

Let me know.

Well the noise started about 3 weeks ago and my first thought was the breaks aleast thats what is sounded like. And at first it wasnt that bad but continually got worse. I didnt think the breaks going bad would cause it to jerk when the car was put into drive and make the grinding sound. Also why wouldnt the noise or grinding happen when in reverse? I dont notice it on turns or atleast it doesnt get worse when making turns.

I would start by checking the brakes. They have a sensor on them that will make noise and I've seen them not make the sound in reverse. Also, I didn't know about the clunk. Because of that, I would check both wheel bearings and motor mounts.

Let me know what you find.
