My Cavalier made the sound a car makes if you try to start it after its already been started but it wasn't started when it made that sound this time. Then next time I tried to start it, there was no sound at all. My lights, radio, fan all work fine so I do not think it is the battery. I am obviously not a car guy but I was wondering if anybody had any ideas as to what this could be so that I might have an idea of the cost to fix it. Sory if I made this sound too confusing, remeber, I am not a car guy.

Sorry for the late reply.

If it makes that terrible grating noise, I have to check the starter and the flywheel. If the starter won't crank, I'd have to check voltage and ground circuit for the starter. Any testing at the starter make sure tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set.

I realize this an old post, you probably no longer own this vehicle. In the future hope you don't have any vehicle issues. If you do, keep the site in mind. They are always trying to improve the site, more moderators and it's free.

Have a good day.
