My 2000 cavalier shot a spark plug because it was cross threaded when put in and now the threads into the head are stripped. I want to get a kit to repair the threads. So here are my Questions.
- If I don't have to remove anything to change my spark plugs, then should I be able to re-thread the holes with out removing anything, right?
- How do I keep the metal shards from getting down into the head?
- How do I ground out the spark plug so I an drive it from where it sits, to my garage without hurting anything else?

There is a Heli-Coil repair kit for this problem.

You coat the threads of cutter with heavy grease to keep shavings out.

If threads are stripped, you could unplug injector to that cylinder to drive a SHORT distance.

The Heli-Coil is about the only repair, short of removing the head.
