Hello. I have a 2000 Cavalier 2.2, and yesterday I flushed the radiator and block of all its coolant fluids. It had been a year or so since I had done it, so it really didnt need it, but I kinda just felt like doing it. Up till I did it, everything was working fine. In doing the flush, I pulled the resevoir and hosed out all debris, ran the hose into the bigger lower radiator hose and flushed the radiator, came out clean with no debris. Then flushed the block, same thing, no debris. I reconnected everything correctly, now it overheats, not just a little hotter, but overheats. I rebled the valve and once it reached operating temp, it started shooting out, so the system is bled. I ran the car up to about 240 or so, then shut it off, the fan did not come on, and it looked like nothing came out of the resevoir. I am waiting for the engine to cool before I test the thermostat, but to check the fan to make sure it works, I understand it should turn on with the AC on, correct? If it works with the AC, what else could it be?

Sounds like you have air in the system. You are gonna have to keep bleeding it. Some of these take a while to get the air out. I spent two days once doing it.

Actually, I just tested everythiing again, ran the car to 240. The fan came on, its really quiet which is probably why I missed it the first time. So the fan is good, The top radiator hose is cold and the resevoir is still full, so its probably a stuck thermostat. Ill check when it cools down. If the thermostat works after testing, then it may be excess air in the system.
