1999 Chevy Cavalier ignition prob

i put one probe of the multimeter an the end of the plug wire and the other at the coil for that same wire and dgot an infinite reading. What could my prob. Be?

If you are trying to measure ohms for the wire, stick the probe in one end of the wire, and the other probe in the other end. Factory wires (Packard) can have 5,000 ohms per foot.
Aftermarket wires (Taylor, MSD, Accell) can have as little as 100-300 ohms per foot.

If you are trying to check the coil you need to remove wire(s) and measure primary and secondary resistance.
