Hi there. Recently my camaro has begun to have no power at times. It seemed to appear suddenly, and would not accelerate when the accelerator was pressed. It happened while on the freeway, and the car would struggle going up a hill that was quite minor. It also happened on a surface street and the car, despite the pedal being applied hard, would not go more than about 20 mph. For a few days, it then ran fine, and had no problems. I have been told it is the catalytic converter, but think it may be the o2 sensor or something else. Today, it returned, and the car again will not accelerate to speed. If the converter is plugged, would it be intermittent like this? Would the o2 sensor be intermittent? Where is the first palce to look, what should I replace first?

I dont think is the 02 sensor. Is the check engine light on? Sounds like catalic or possible weak fuel pump. Clean throtle body also. Get the cat checked out.

There is NO check engine light. I have had the fuel pump replaced about 3 years ago, and the fuel pump about 6 months ago. I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor relatively recently as well. When this problem initially started, I sprayed some of the intake cleaner spray into there, and it seemed to run better for a day or two, and then it resumed. Is there is way to test the cat, or do you just replace it with a new one? Thanks for the help.

A mufler shop can chek the cat without removing it. Most wont even charge u for checking it its fast. You know you can also have a bad egr or if your car has a vaccum advance on the distributer check that out maybe vacc hose is unplugged, or hose is bad to soft to many craks etc. Or even advance can be bad. Maybe timing needs to be moved. Gotta chek many little things. Good luck. When me personally is checking for problems in my car I go to a self serve junkyard and get used things till I find my problem may save cash. But thats me. Good luck
