I have a 96 S-10 Blazer, V-6 with 150,000 miles. I had the engine rebuilt last year and it has rur great till two days ago. My brake pedal is stiff and I can hear an air leak when I apply the brakes. Applying the brakes also causes the engine idle to flutter and my engine even died once at a stop. Can you pleace adise me as to where I might start to look for problems. I am sure the air leak I hear is a vacuum leak but a my vac. hose look good.

Hi there,

It sounds like your brake booster has failed, the vacuum leak is internal so you wont see any thing, best way to check is to switch off the engine and pump the brakes till all vac is expelled (hard pedal) with your foot on the brake pedal start up and if the booster is working well the pedal should suck down a little. Also try pluging the booster vacuum hose at the engine , start up and pump the brakes if the engine idle is constant (no vacuum loss good chance the booster is faulty. also remove and check the one way check valve at the booster that it is working as it should.
