If you are trying to determine if its a fuel related concern yes a small amount if starter fluid is ok. People say not to use starting fluid on a regular basis. Prolonged use can cause piston and cylinder wall damage.

If it will not run on starter fluid, and the engine sounds like its got good compression. The next step would be to check for spark. Blazers have a common problem getting water in the distributor. You can get a spark tester at most autoparts stores.

Someone else told me to check the distributor cap for cracks too. Is it just a moisture thing or water bypassing the rubberer seal? Wonder if I should make and screw a cover plate over the distibutor and screw it to the firewall? Please let me know, it rained and won't start again. Thanks much Dnantzusn retired.

You could try that but first make sure that it is spark that is the issue. Repair failed part. Then add a water shield, or distributor jacket
