I would start by cleaning the throttle body and throttle position sensor if you havent done that. It should be done every so often about 30000 miles or so no money needed the gasket on the underside of body is silicon so no need to worry about damageing it just dont get dirt into intake when it is removed. You can google on how to clean it. It takes about an hour or so if you are car savy.

Engine cranking, do you have spark at the plugs? Use a gage and check fuel pressure. Some of the national brand autostores used to loan fuel pressure gages. You can call and ask.

The fuel poppets may need cleaning, probably the best cleaning procedure is a shop procedure. Injector cleaner in the gas tank, may not help anything. If that is the problem.

Hi I have a 2000 chevrolet Blazer that wont start on its own. One day I wasnt able to start it after work and had to be jumped and since then it wont start on its own. After it is jump started and it runs for about half an hour I will be able to start it once but not if it is cold outside. To try to fix the problem I have changed the starter, battery, fuel filter, cables to the battery and had the alternator tested. They said it was ok and it was putting out enough power. I can hear the fuel pump working when I first turn the car on so Im not sure what it could be after that. I have also opened the distributor box to see if anything was loose or wet but no dice. I also checked all of the spark plugs.

It sounds like a lazy fuel pump. Check to make sure the fuel pressure is within spec. I have seen them (often) where they will run the vehicle fine, but refuse to build enough pressure to start the engine.

After sitting for about four hours or over night, my truck will not start unless I spray starter fluid in it. It runs OK, does not run rough or anything. Starts fine as long as I dont let it sit long. I can hear fuel pump running when I turn key to start position. I have had one shop say it is the pump, another one says its not. HELP, HELP, HELP!

Could very well be a weak pump. Regardless, to find the problem you will need to put a manual fuel pressure gauge on it to see what it has. Should be 60-66 psi if anything less it needs to be replaced, I strongly suggest an OE part (A/C Delco)

I have a 2000 chevy blazer with 141000 miles I replaced the fuel pump about a year and a half ago. In the last couple of weeks I have had to turn the key on and off about 6 times to get it to start. I hear the fuel pump running. I tested the fuel pressure with a guage before I hooked the guage up I tried to bleed the pressure off of the line no fuel present. When I turned the key on I showed about 20psi. When I finally got the pressure up to 60 psi it started. The pressure dropped about 7 psi. When I shut the motor off the pressure imeddiatly dropped to about 2 psi. Shouldn't the system hold some pressure. I'm hopeing it's not the fuel pump again. Could it be the fuel pressure regulator? By the way it is 4 wheel drive and has the 4.3 motor. Thanks Jim

I have a 2000 chevy blazer that won't start when it is cold. My husband puts starter fluid on the throttle body to get it to start. Once it is started, it runs fine. He has replaced the IAC valve, IAT sensor, did a tune up and to no avail, still wont start. Any suggestions as to what could be the problem? My husband also hooked up the diagnostic tool to my blazer and no error codes were reported.

Try this next time it is cold:
Turn the key to the on position for 5 secends, then turn it off for 3 seconds. Repeat this 3-4 times and then crank it. If it starts, I would be suspicious of the pump allowing fuel to drain back into the tank.

Ok, chevy blazer, checked all obvious stuff such as fuses etc. Good fuel pressure (replaced the pump and filter) it has good pressure at the schrader valve, good spark (just installed plugs, wires, cap, rotor), replaced computer with a used one, coil, crank sensor. The truck wouldnt start, you spray it with carb cleaner and it would run fine. But it wouldnt start without carb cleaner. Drove it a few days like that, now it wont start at all. It spudders once or twice but just cranks and no start. Spray starting fluid in it and still nothing. The multifunction switch in the column shorted out it started smoking right before this happend and we replaced that I dont know why that would affect it not running. Any helps appriciated thanks

When you say good fuel pressure, I need the actual spec. Use a noid lite and check for injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes? To check for codes, at the least you need an obd2 code reader. Last but not least, your security system could be causing an issue, passlock.

I forget what fuel pressure was but it was right on the money. Just noticed the security light flashes when its cranking. How do I disable or fix the passkey setup to eliminate that? Btw it doesnt have the chip on the key like some of them do

Here is the relearn procedure for the Passlock system. If this doesn't work, that means it has a hard failure and you will need a Tech2 scan tool to diagnose it. The most common failure is the sensor in the ignition switch and I can give you a way to bypass that if you wish but the rest of the system has to work.

Attempt to start the car. It will stall don't turn the ignition off. Leave the ignition on for ten minutes or until the theft light goes out. Turn the key off for ten seconds then attempt to start the car. If it now runs you have been successful

Going to try that, also there was an aftermarket alarm installed that we cut out while we were doing the multifunction switch that was wired into the multifunction switch wires near the connector alongside the column. I dont think that has anything to do with it though because theres no keyfob for the alarm and it hasnt been used, we didnt know it was even in there till I pulled the wires out from under the dash.

I have a 2000 Blazer and about a week ago I went to the store and came home, thought I forgot something and was going to head back there and car wouldn't start. Got a new battery, sounds now like it want's to start but not enough power? Also when it was running I wouldn't be able to get up to speed once in a while and I knew that was a problem because my Service Engine light has been turning on and off for the past year. Any ideas? From what I've been reading it could be a number of things!

It could be a number of things. If the check engine light has been coming on, there should be a trouble code stored in the computer. You need a scanner to check it.

As of now, have you checked to see if you are getting fuel and spark to the engine? Also, is there a nationally recognized parts store near you? If so, call and ask if they will lend or rent a scanner to you so you can check for codes.

Finally, have you tried starting the vehicle with starting fluid? If so, describe what happened.

Let me know.
Joe

That would have been for flashing the lights. Just make sure that and wires that were interrupted to go through the alarm get spliced back together after it's removed.

Changed fuel pump two years ago (pump only). Recently trouble starting. If you waited it would start after about 10 minutes. Now it started stalling while driving, then won't start at all. If you let it sit for a day it start then do the same thing again a few days later. You can hear the fuel pump go on buy won't fire.
