I Have a 1989 Chevy S-10 Blazer 4WD, it has not been driven in about a year, I'm almost 16 so the SUV was given to me, It used to start when I turned the ignition on, but now it wont, I have changed the battery, and it trys to turn over but it wont seem to start. It ONLY starts if I spray 2+2 Gum Cutter into the Carborator. Any help?

89 is fuel injected. When you first turnon the key do you hear the fuel pump run? The pump might have been borderline before the truck was stored, and now it is locked up. Check if the pump runs and get back to me

I dont think it does, my uncle is a Mechanic and he tryed listening for it and I dont think he heard anything, he thinks its the fuel pump, but the fuel pump I need is in the gas tank and they are like 300 bucks. Im just trying to get a 2nd opinion before I go out and get a new part like that.

It is an 89 and not a 98 correct? The fuel pump for a 89 is only 100.00, A/C Delco p/n EP386, the strainer is 8.91 A/C p/n TS4, the relay is 13.05, A/C p/n 12-2371. You should be good for well under 200 bucks

I also got another question, since its an old truck, the turn signal/wind shield wiper "switch/stick" is broken and someone taped it back on, is this replaceable, cuss it doesn't look like it, and if so can you give me any sites/stores that may have this part. Thanks.

Dealer item, but just the "wand" is available. Pops in and out. BTW. Careful where you buy your pump, had a cust buy one online (the real $500 model) trying to save a few bucks, it didnt put out enough pressure and we had to remove the tank a second time (on him) and put a A/C Delco in it, ran perfect. Also, if your pump unit has a "pulse dampener" between the pump and the tank unit, remove it and round file it, they caused alot of weird problems, and if you buy a quality pump it will have a piece of FI hose to put in its place

Ok, I just thought about somthing, If the fuel pump wasnt working, there wouldnt be no gas in the line going to the carborator, right? I just took my carb apart and took off the gas line where it connected to the carb and there was some gas that came out. Or do u think my line might be clogged?

That isnt a carb, an 89 should be TBI injection. The pump san push a small amount of fuel, but it has to be under pressure for everything to work properly

You only need to tell them what it is for and they shoulod be able to give you the correct pump.

Now as to actually replacing the pump, it is a big job to drop the gas tank and replace the pump. I have done this several times and now I take a shortcut when working on these older blazers, now I pull up the carpet in the rear and cut a hole in the floor, about a foot square and you can reach in and disconnect the lines and remove the pump much easier and faster. I cut a piece of metal about 2 inches bigger then the hole and put it over the hole and replace the carpet. I haven't ever had a problem doing it this way, the factory should have put an access door there in the first place.
