My check engine light never comes on, I bought the car not that long ago but when I turn the car on the light never even shows up. Could it be burnt out or turned off some how? I just want everything in the car fixed. I ran vagcom and engine codes came up so I know the light should be on, so how do I fix it?

Look at those codes again. If the check engine light is burnt out, then there will be a code for it. I forget what number it is, but OBD2 systems have a code specifically for that. If there is no code, then someone just covered up the light, probably with black electrical tape. You will have to pull the instrument panel out and poke around to find it.

Here is a youtube video for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55ctlTmU5IM

It is for a 2000 Jetta, but I think it is the same as your 2001. If not just run a YouTube search and look around until you find one. I can get you some information, but it wil be convoluted and probably not very clear.
