Hello,
My check engine light came on about 3 months ago and also got emmsion workshop when I drove about 5mph. I had it scanned and was given P0420.
I took car to 2 different mechanics and one said problem was oxygen senson while the other said CAT Converter ($700) and recommended I stop driving car until its fixed. Well I parked car in garage for 3 months tried to start it 3 days ago and realized battery was dead.
I bought a new battery yesterday and noticed that check light and emission workshop no longer appeared when I drove the car.
Does it mean I no longer have P0420 problem?

Hello and thanks for the donation!

Your check engine light reset due to the battery being dead. This does NOT mean that the issue was actually fixed. Upon driving the vehicle more frequently again, the light will indeed come back on. The oxygen sensor is usually the first thing that shops replace with this code because it is an easy fix. Unfortunately, it is usually the catalytic converter that has caused the code and sometimes actually fouls out the oxygen sensor(s) as well.
