I have a 2001 WW Jetta 2.0 engine 4 cyl automatic. My car is taking forever to get warmed up. After driving 12 miles my engine still hadn't hit 190. When I drove it this morning I don't think my temp even got past the first few lines after about 15 miles. My check engine light starts flashing when I fir. St start it up and it idles really rough. Is there any help as to the possible diagnosis? I just can't afford to go to a shop and getting the problem diagnosis. I have replaced the heat sensor. Help!

Replace the thermostat. It sounds like it is sticking open and not allowing the engine to warm up. As far as the check engine light, have the computer scanned at a nationally recognized parts store. Most will do it for free, and it will identify where the problem is coming.

Let me know what you find.
