Hello,
It has to be a bad connection or the belt could be slipping. I've seen new alternators be fine at the store then not fine after installation. sometimes on the older cars the plug clip that snaps into the alternator breaks off and the plug doesn't seat the best make sure that is seated properly and snaps in. Is the battery light on?
This guide can help us test the alternator:

Have you tested the alternator with a Volt Ohm Meter after it was installed on the car? I would check at the alternators positive lead as well as at the battery terminal just to make sure.
