The truck turns on nicely, but it stalls when accelerating and turns off by itself.

Hi,

It sounds like it isn't getting enough fuel. Does it still have the original mechanical fuel pump? Also, did it start this all at once? Have you tried replacing the fuel filter?

Let me know.

Hi,

There should be a filter where the fuel line is attached to the carb. They used a small filter that sat inside the carburetor.

Based on the description, it sounds like it isn't getting the fuel it needs. That can be caused by a few things. The pump is failing, the needle and seat in the carburetor aren't allowing enough fuel to get into the engine, or the fuel pump is actuated by a push rod that mechanically moves when a lobe on the camshaft pushes on it. The lobe on the camshaft may be worn and not provide enough of a plunge.

To narrow it down, you should check the pressure from the pump. Also, if you didn't replace the internal filter where the fuel line is attached? I would do that as well.

Let me know.

Yes, the filter was clogged thank you.
Now it stays on, but I have a new issue, when I turn it off it won't turn off right away and it backfires then shuts off!

Hi,

I'm glad to know the filter took care of the issue. Now, the shutting-off issue is an odd one. I have to ask a favor. We try to keep the threads specific to one topic, so they are more helpful to others. I need you to copy and paste your new question onto a new thread. Once you do that, we will get on it and help figure that one out. LOL

Here is the link to start a new thread:

Again, I hope you understand.

Take care and I'll watch for your new post.
