My car won't start. The horn stopped working. The lights are working. Battery is fine after having it tested. Key still locks the car. It's a push start. Needed an oil change desperately, so I topped off with fresh oil, but I still need an oil change. I haven't tried starting it again since doing that an hour ago. Nervous that it won't get it started. I was cleaning the car yesterday and I kept putting it in accessory mode to open and close the windows before I realized my car wouldn't start. 20 minutes later I came out and tried starting it, but I could just hear it trying and not turning on. Now I just hear clicking when I press the button. Will adding oil get it to work? Please help.

Hi,

It sounds like the battery has gotten too weak to start it. See if it starts if you jump-start it. Here is a link that explains how that is done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-jump-start-car-battery-using-jumper-cables

Also, before you try to jump start it, try this simple battery load test. You don't need tools to do it and it's very simple.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Hi, thank you so much. I agree, and my father believes my alternator is done. I'm about to jump start it with him then take it to the nearest shop. I had the battery tested at AutoZone and they said it was a good battery. I believe it started to die because I kept trying to start my car so many times after having it tested and reinstalling the battery. I will keep you updated. Thank you again.

Hello, it was the battery. The associate at AutoZone was incorrect yesterday when he said my battery was good. AAA tested it and said it was not. My car is running fine with a new battery. Thank you for the help!

Hi,

Thanks for the update. I had a feeling it was related to the battery. However, if you question the alternator, here is a link that explains how to test it. All you will need is either a voltmeter or a multimeter.

I'm glad to know if it has been repaired. If you have any related issues or questions, let me know.

Take care,

Joe
