I was driving my truck at about 40mph. All of a sudden I was losing power and soon the truck stopped. I went to crank it back up and it would crank but not turn over and catch. My dad came to check it out and said that he can still hear the hum from the fuel pump. I wanted to know if you had an idea of what it could be.

It could be a failed fuel pump. It can still run but produce no pressure. You can rent a tester from a parts store and check the pressure yourself.

It is common for the red battery light to come on if it is the fuel pump? I have also had problems with rough idling and slow acceleration when driving up bridges.

No, red battery light is an indication of a failing alternator and has nothing to do with the fuel pump.

As I stated already, the red light has nothing to do with the fuel pump. It is related to the charging system.

I did not mean to repeat that statement. The voltage meter read fine. I had alternator trouble 2.5 years ago and the battery light flashing was obvious.

I had a mechanic come out to check the problem. After he checked for codes, checked the fuel pump/ filter and intake, he discovered all of my spark plugs were burned out. Thank you for your help.
