Fuel pump is kicking in and it's getting pressure. We put straight gas in the intake and it tried to crank but didn't. Please can you explain why?

Can you confirm for me that the engine is spinning over when you are trying to start it but just not starting? If this is the case this is called a crank no start issue.

Here is a guide that will help with this:

Basically you need fuel, spark, and compression to start an engine so let's start narrowing these down to figure out what the issue is.

When you say you have pressure, have you checked the PSI? If not, we need to do that as low pressure will cause the engine to not start.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

Then we need to remove a spark plug and crank the engine and find out if there is spark.

Lastly we need to check the compression if these check out.

Please let us know what you find with this and we can go from there. Thanks

Good afternoon,

This comes from the engine running very rich and not burning all the fuel. When raw unburned fuel gets into the exhaust system, it will react with the inside of the converter and cause this smell.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/engine-black-smoke

I attached a guide for running rich below.

This could be from injectors not seating after the ECM commands them to stop flowing fuel. The fuel rail has to be removed in order to replace the injectors.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-a-fuel-injector

It also could be from a bad fuel pressure regulator as there is a vacuum line on it that could draw raw fuel into the intake system. I attached a picture for you of the location. To be sure the regulator is the issue, remove the vacuum line and see if there is fuel in the line with the key in the on position. If there is fuel in the line, then it is bad.

It sounds like you may have a clogged catalytic converter. Please go over this guide to confirm the issue:

Please run down this guide and report back.
