Hi all

My car listed above seems to jerk a little when slowing down, almost as if it’s racing to get down into 1st before the car stops, and when it does come to a stop the engine kills. The only way to keep the engine running upon stopping is if I don’t apply the brakes to stop and I just allow the car to very slowly coast to a stop. If it shuts off, I have to start the car back up and allow it to idle for a second before shifting into drive. If I shift it into drive before allowing the car to idle down to normal, the engine will shut off again. Any ideas? TIA

Hi,

Oftentimes, this type of issue is caused by engine vacuum leaks. Have you checked for leaks? If not, start with this.

Here is a link that explains how to locate and repair a leak:

If you are unable to find a leak, scan the computer for codes. This vehicle has an OBD1 system and doesn't require a scan tool to retrieve codes. All you need is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip.

Here is a link that explains how it's done, do this and let me know what you find:

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

joe
