Hi,
What you described does sound like a faulty crankshaft position sensor. If you checked it, was that done when the engine was hot and wouldn't start?
What happens is when the sensors start to fail, heat adversely affects them. There is an internal expansion of the coil and a loss of connection. Once it cools, it will run again. Also, by design, these sensors may or may not set a code.
Take a look through this link and let me know if it mirrors what you experience:

Also, when it stalls and won't restart, check to see if there is spark to the plugs. If the sensor is the issue, you will lose spark. Here is a link that shows how to test for spark.

If you have a tachometer in the vehicle, when cranking see if it moves at all.
Let me know.
