My engine stalls at idle?

On the starting issue, it might be an idle air problem. Opening the throttle bypasses the idle air system.

You might check for troublecodes, some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free.

Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Has the fuel pressure been checked?

Let me know.

Me again, holly molly. Okay, so since my last question I took it in couldn't get a code so I don't run the air because if I do it will stall out. But now if it is driven a while and it is super hot out like it has been it will stall out without air on. It only does this if you come to a stop or when you start to take off. When it completely shuts off it will start usually after two or three times. Also, it feels like it just slightly loses power or slips when I am driving it down the road, not always but after it has been driven a while when it is hot out. Few days ago it shut off and check engine light stayed on few miles later it shut off again and engine light went off. Then it came back on just randomly driving with no issues with light coming on, then went off later on driving it. The best way to explain is it acts like it is vapor locking but it can't vapor lock can it?Any thought?Thank you

Good morning,

I would have the codes tested at a parts store to see what system is asking for help. Once we know the codes, we can help narrow the area of failure.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

As far as the stalling.

I would consider the idle air control valve. It is a very common failure. You cannot clean this valve as the area that sticks is not accessible for cleaning. It is a replacement only. I controls the idle speed.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-an-idle-speed-control-motor-iac

Also, the base idle on the throttle body needs to be set at 500 RPM in neutral.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/stall-at-idle

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/throttle-actuator-service

Check these and let me know what you find.

I want to know if you guys have heard of this problem before. My Ford starts then dies when the vehicle has been sitting for a long time. But when you press on the gas and hold it the vehicle will stay running, when you let go it drops to low rpm's and dies. After about 15-30 minutes of this it starts right up. Fuel pump has been replaced by the dealer about 2 months ago when I bought the car. I checked fuel pressure at key on engine off got 60 psi and checked while the car is running and got 65 psi. Also when you start the car in the morning it only takes a couple of times of starting and dying. But if I drive the car and let it sit for 8 - 10 hours and try to start the car it will start and die for about 15 minutes. I have to keep the gas pedal pressed just to keep the rpm's up.

This usually means that you idle air control valve is not working and needs to be replaced. This valve is what maintains the proper idle. Hope this helps

This could be a few things. Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Also, have you checked the EGR valve to make sure it is not carboned to a point that it isn't working?

Let me know.
