I have a 2000 ford explorer, when I come to a stop the car will shake a small bit and then die. I have replaced the Mass Air flow senor, throttle position sensor, trasmission (with a rebuilt one cause it was bad) had the vaccum lines gone through and timing checked to make sure they were all correct, any advice would be a great help Thanks

Hello,

Is the Engine Light on? If so will need to get codes pulled. You can go by tour local parts store and have them pull codes. Post codes here.

Also, Have you checked the IAC(Idle Air Control) Motor.

Ok,

Have you removed it and cleaned it out. It most likely has carbon deposits which are stopping it from openning and closing properly.

You cleaned the Plunger or the electrical connection.

Here is what you should have cleaned if you didn't and I would use Carb Cleaner and you may also need a small flat screw driver to get into it and scrape some the deposits off. The pic may not be the exact one on your vehicle.

Did you notice any scratches in the bore or on the plunger. And did you move the plunger to make sure it was moving the full distance.

It is possible that the plunger and or bore has scratches and not working properly.

Hey, Sorry for delay in repsonding.

A common condition is to find the idle air bypass solenoid extended all the way out (closed). This usually means the engine has an air leak and the PCM is trying to bring the idle speed back down by closing the idle air bypass circuit.

Follow the link below for a video with diagnostic proceedure and pics. This is set up on my business webpage.

Have you checked fuel pump pressure when it is cold? As far as the pump, I question it. Have you had the computer scanned since the light came back on? Is it the same code as before? If so, what code is it? Also, has anyone checked the temp sensor?

Let me know.

Joe

Dont believe it is same code, they told me my fuel pressure is running low and that the fuel pump would be the only answer. Would the temp sensor be on the codes? I know he told me it showed a misfire. And no I always have drove into the shop and then they scan, I need to leave overnight I guess and let them scan?

Yes, it would be. It tells the computer how rich or lean to make the fuel mixture based on outside temp and coolant temp. However, if the fuel pressure is low, there is a good chance that is the problem.

If you would like to check the fuel pump, here is a how to video and directions. You will need a gauge to check it, but most parts stores will lend or rent them to you.

https://www.2carpros.com/how_to/how_to_check_fuel_pressure.htm

Let me know if this helps or if you have other directions.

I have Ford Explorer 2000 with 104000 miles on it. The problems just start about 3 weeks ago: When I start the car, the engine start OK with the RPM needle went to 1.5 and it drop down to to 0.5 and pull back to 1. Some time the RPM needle went to 0.5 then pull it down to 0 which caused the engine to stop (I can heard the sound of the engine drop before it shut down). When the RPM needle drop down to 0.5 or the engine almost shut down and if I apply the gas padle then the egine will go back to normal and the car stay run OK. I did replaced with a battery but the engine still shut down. Could you please help me to identify the problems? Thanks

2000 Ford Explorer Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My car will only start when I am pushing on the gas. Once started it will only stay running when my foot is on the gas. The first time this happened it was cold -0 degrees. I started it and warmed it up for 30 minutes. It stayed running. This time it is 25 degrees.
Our repair shop has said the tranmission is having problems - no overdrive.
Are these related or what else could be causing this problem.
