Hello,

I just changed my starter, alternator and battery in my car, but it will not start. It won’t even crank I hear one click and it just stop. All my lights turn on, A/C and radio works and turn on, but the car itself won’t start. Any help?

Hi,

The most common cause of one click is a weak connection between the battery and the starter. First, make sure the connections are clean and tight. Here is a link you may find helpful:

If the connections are good, then I need you to check the ignition fuse in the fuse box under the left rear seat. In addition to checking it, confirm there is power to and from it. Here is a link that you may find helpful:

If the fuse is good, then we need to check the starter 1 relay in the fuse/relay box under the hood. Here is a link that explains how to test a relay:

If you look at pics 1 and 2 below, it shows the entire wiring schematic for the starter circuit. I highlighted the fuse and relay. Also, at the bottom of the pic is the starter motor. I highlighted the purple wire. That wire should get 12v only when the key is in the start position. If everything above checks good, have a helper turn the key to the start position while you check for power at that wire. Here is a link that is more detailed:

Pics 3 and 4 show the layout of the fuse/relay box. Pic 3 is the one under the rear seat. I highlighted the fuse to check. Pic 4 is under the hood. Number 36 (highlighted) is the relay. Also, I highlighted number 41. Number 41 is a circuit breaker that powers the starter 1 relay, so we need to make sure it is good as well. Last is fuse 8 in pic 4 which is also highlighted. The is the PCM battery fuse. Make sure it is good as well.

Remember, when checking fuses, if it is good, confirm power to and from it.

I know this seems like a lot, but just do one thing at a time and it won't take too long.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
