Car interior smells like nail polish, especially after first getting in it.

I apologize in advance for this lengthy post. After the amount of repairs that I have had to put into the vehicle, I am at a loss for what this could potentially be and am hoping to find some advice here before having to put even more money into it. I bought it used after having a bad accident in my previous car. The radiator was replaced on the car before purchase when it showed up as an issue upon inspection (as I would not buy it without one) and the hood latch was replaced. Ever since then, it has been nothing but issues. The cooler line broke and had to be replaced about two weeks into having it. One of the back tires turned up extremely warped which lead to needing and getting all new tires altogether. One week after getting new tires, smoke/steam was coming from a front tire. Took it back to the tire shop and was told it could be the calibers but I had to interrupt that inspection and leave almost immediately due to a serious family emergency. That emergency was a long and difficult one. So, about a week passed in which I tried to drive as little as possible. The check engine light came on and the diagnosis revealed four codes all relating to the thermostat/possibly the transmission (or temperature gauge? Not a car expert, sorry) but went off within twenty four hours. I do not have another vehicle or means of transportation therefore I had to drive it for a few days until I was able to have it looked at and again, did so only when necessary. One evening during those few days, the car was bouncing/shaking so hard on a short drive home that I nearly stopped and had AAA come. Went straight back to the tire shop the next day and it shook all the way there. However, they found nothing and it did not shake when they drove it. Said the problem was intermittent and sure enough, it did not do it when I drove back home. I then took it straight to a close family friend's shop who has always worked on our vehicles and fixed any and all issues he finds. Asked him to do a thorough inspection because of the non-stop problems. This time it was the whole brake system, most especially the brake lines. He could not find anything else but fixed all that was found. He pulled up the codes that had showed up when the check engine light was on and said they found nothing related to them but it could have been because my transmission had quickly slipped, the light came on, and it took until the next day to go off. About two to three weeks pass. The brakes seem off yet again (squealing at times, grinding at times) despite having just been fixed. Check engine light comes on again. This time it is just one code: thermostat. The code was reset so I could wait for it to come on again after paying close attention to how it drove/what problems presented. The temperate gauge has gone above the halfway mark if the car is stopped/stopping and going (such as in traffic) or if it is on and in park at times. The check engine light has not come back on.

So, the current and bizarre issue: the interior smells very strongly like nail polish. Especially when first getting back in the car after driving somewhere or leaving it parked (such as under the garage at home). The smell only seems to be in the interior. It did not smell at all like this under the hood. It seemed to be possible that it was "seeping" from the vents, as I got close to them to check but the smell was very strong at that time so it could have been misleading. I did hear a high pitched noise from under the hood once when it was started on a day that I had several errands to run. It sounded like it was coming from the belt that I could see moving (sorry I would not know the correct identification of it). This is also when I noticed the smell had not gone away or gotten better. Every time it is stopped (whether it is for ten minutes or an hour), the smell is stronger when getting back in the vehicle. It lessens when driving. The weather has been crazy. It has never been this cold for this long where I live. Sometimes the temperature outside will spike up slightly for one or two days, then drop back down to freezing with cold, windy, and rainy days. The problems seem to be worse when it is cold(er). The car was originally bought in Ohio, therefore it seemed like it would tolerate colder weather better.

Some things to add that may help: I did get gas the day the smell started although I do not recall if I noticed it before or after doing so. Less than one minute from the gas station, I had to make a stop and was inside for maybe ten minutes. The smell was fully noticeable when getting back in the car after. I have checked everything I can think of and removed everything that could be removed from the car. One suspicion was that it was my child's book bag or lunch box. After getting it out I noticed that it smelled like the car. Checked the entire book bag and there was nothing. Checked my purse as well and nothing. Both of these items seemed like they smelled like the car interior after they had been inside of it for a while, then the smell disappeared from them upon taking them inside. The center console does smell a little like my perfume but it is a completely different smell and it is very rarely opened. I parked the car for about an hour under the garage and went out to check. The smell was still present and only seemed like it had dissipated slightly. Everything has been removed, as mentioned, and I am waiting to check again tomorrow. No obvious leaks have been present after parking the car and moving it later/the next day. There have been a few times that the car has not started properly. Its "lagged" when starting or, one particular evening, it would not start at all. After trying several times it seemed like a lost cause but after about fifteen minutes, it started just fine. I have put more than half of what I paid for the car into repairs and am afraid it will continue to happen or that a major issue could occur and I would not be able to fix it. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read!

Reach up under the dash on both sides and feel the carpet up as high as you can touch it after you run it a while, is it warm/hot and wet or even warm and damp? If yes you probably have a leaking heater core. Have the mechanic you trust look at it and he can also pressure test the cooling system to see if it is leaking. It is also possible it is a leak from the AC condenser that is in with the heater core. The smell is there when you first get in then your brain slightly tunes it out until you get fresh air again.
