I have a 97 Tahoe with 152,000 miles on it. I purchased it 6 months ago with virtually no problems. Recently, I started having a problem starting it. It would give me a problem once & then fired up fine right after. That has been going on for a couple of weeks. Well, now, it won't start at all. I try to start it & it will just turn over & not start. We had pulled off the air filter the first time it did this & sprayed starting fluid in there & after some coaxing, it fired up. Ran fine for a couple of days & now back to square one. Starting fluid won't work now. Amongst this, I have noticed that the typical "hum" of my fuel pump isn't there when I turn the ignition to on. Instead it just clicks. I believe it is my fuel pump gone bad. But I want to make sure that if there's anything else causing this, that it be taken care of first before the more costly end of it. Thanks so much. I have ruled out the possibility of fuses & fuel pump relay.

It sounds like your early problem may have been relevant to the fuel pump leaking off pressure, resulting in longer crank. You need to check fuel pressure, if there is none, the next check would be power and ground at the fuel pump/sender connector. @ Second power at key up, and power on when cranking. If that is good, it is a fuel pump. You sometimes can get them to come back on line bay banging on the fuel tank under the pump. It may run again, but can't be relied upon.
