Please send any info to deactivate the theft deterrent system. I have replaced pass key, keyless remote is not working. Panel does not give wait 3 minute option. Please send steering column wiring diagrams and pics as well as resistor code info if possible. Need this ASAP. This is my only form of transportation. Thanks

It is possible that the security malfunction message and the "Starting Disabled, Please Remove Key" message you are seeing on your Cadillac Seville are related to issues with the vehicle's anti-theft system. However, the cost of repair can vary depending on the specific cause of the problem and where you have it serviced.

In many cases, this type of issue can be related to the PassKey or PassKey II anti-theft system used in older Cadillac models. These systems rely on a transponder embedded in the ignition key to communicate with the car's immobilizer system. If there is a problem with the key, the ignition cylinder, or the anti-theft system itself, it may prevent the vehicle from starting.

The cost of repair will depend on what component is causing the issue. If it is related to the key or ignition cylinder, the cost may be lower compared to a problem with the immobilizer system, which could involve more complex diagnostics and programming.

I have a 1994 SLS, V8 Northstar.I cannot get my car started. The on board message tells me "starting disabled due to theft system". Other than paying a Cadillac Dealership over $500.00 any suggestions? I already tried unhooking the battery and cleaning the keys off.
Thanks for listening!

Is the anti theft a after market product? See if there is a button under the drivers side. It is hard to see and is small. If there is press button before putting key in ignition. While holding the button turn the key on. You can also try putting the key in the door and turn the key to unlock the door twice. Does not re-lock the door. Sometimes this works. Do you have a remote to unlock the doors? Anti theft systems are sometime very sensitive so you might have to do it a couple of times before it resets. Let me know what happens.

Okay, I have tried your suggestions, Unfortunately nothing.
Any other suggestions? I got some information on by passing the VATS, But when I try locating the wire (orange one running down the steering column) we cannot seem to find it. Is there a difference in that stuff on a 1994 Cadillac Seville SLS?
Help!

Wow, that was a relief, I got a great set of instructions and images of wiring inside the steering column and bought a $2.00 resistor from radio shack and voila it started!
If anyone has this problem and wants to try this solution, I still have the instructions.

Thanks

I just bought a 96 Cadillac Seville STS. The seller said all it needed was a new battery and to have the computer reset. I replaced the battery and it cranked up but it died after a few seconds. Then a mechanic told me that I needed to replace the ignition switch and key because a wire inside was broken. I had that replaced and the car started and ran great, other than the Theft Problem Message. And no radio, AC, fuel or temp gauge ect. When I got it home I started it up multiple times in the driveway. But it still had the message saying " Theft System Problem. " so put the key in accessory position and I waited awhile.I was told to wait 10 mins. While waiting the radio came on and the AC lights were on but no air blowing and the fuel and trunk switches worked. Weird. I read that unhooking the battery for an hour would reset the computer so I tried that but now it started doing the same thing as before. Shutting down after a few seconds and won't run. Its very strange that some things start working then they stop working. I also tried to get codes by holding the off and warmer up but got nothing.

I bought the car at a large auction that has onsite mechanics. They first offered to deactivate the security system. I mentioned that I read online that the key switch may be the problem. They checked it and said that the wire was broken. He said he would go to a local GM dealer and get a new cylinder and key. After an hour or hour 1/2 he called me and said that the car was working, he had installed a new cylinder but that I would need to have the computer re-programed still. Everyone there was very helpful and seemed trustworthy but I was wondering if he installed the incorrect key/cylinder. Maybe the wrong pass key resistance. Not sure. Still not working today and no lights on the center console either. Just flashing on gear indicators and same message Theft System Problem Car May Not Start. I wouldn't mind just bypassing or deactivating the theft system. If its not to difficult.

How do I reset the computer?. Please help.I need to get this car working.

Any way you could email me that solution to your problem. I am having the same situation with my Cadillac and it is driving me crazy. I did try putting the resistor in but nothing happened. Possibly I did not do it properly. Thanks for your time.

Did you get the theft system re-programed? If not Im surprised it starts at all with out that reprogram the theft system doesn't recognize the key. The system must be re-programed at the dealer for it to work right. There is a chip in the key which is now different.

I have the same problem. I have a 1990 Cadillac El Dorado and the dash says to wait three minutes then start. We have tried. It worked a couple of times, now it will not start at all no matter how long we try and wait. Tried to do a reset by the old school method, did not work. Need to fix this ASAP. My husband is a heart patient and this is the only car we have right now. It is a V8 engine. We will check all of the suggestions I have read so far and let you know if they work or not. Any other suggestions?

Hey Buzzsaw,
Thank You for the help. This car is crazy. I tried to put in the resistor to fool the theft system but I was getting the corect resistance that matched the key at the wire so I just reconnected the wires. When I tried to start it up. It was completely dead. I jumped it and it started and kept running. After letting the battery charge for awhile I cut it off. It started again. And again. And again. I still have the Theft system message, the radio, AC, trunk release and fuel door ect. Still dont work. I had popped the trunk with a key to check the fuses. But then it wouldnt shut.I then put the key in acc. Position for about 10 mins and the trunk release activated.I think it must have a bad computer in it. Would the theft system cause all these issues? I will prob. Just try to auction off the car in a few weeks. But I will continue to try to get tips to fix it before then. I really regret getting the car ; ;. Its a great looking car but it has a mind of its own :)

Okay, tried both suggestions. Unlocking doors did not work. Could not find a reset button or any kind of button under drivers side dash. Could it be somewhere else? There has to be some kind of driver/owner override somewhere! Can anyone help?

I know when money is tight, but things need to be fixed right. Did you find the fuse panel in the trunk? And there is one under the hood also

Yes, I need the part number for the resistor and could you e-mail the instructions? Have been having this problem and every thing that has been written thus far has not helped. I tried wiggling the ignition key switch back and forth and both times now the starter has engaged. Thank you
