If it sounds like a normal crank, even and adequate speed, I would not suspect timing. Spray some aerosol(carb cleaner/starter fluid) into the throttle opening and see if it fires. If so I would proceed on fuel system diagnosis. The best check would be for fuel pressure, and then you would check for power and ground at the fuel tank connector. If you have an ammeter and know how to use it, you can bridge the fuel pump fuse, and should see about 4-6 amps current to indicate a good pump.
