My 98 Deville is starting to overheat and loose coolant as well. I am sure it is the head gasket because my car symptoms are similar to others who have experienced head gasket difficulties. Would this problem resurface if the timeserts are installed at a Cadillac dealership? I also have an oil leak, which I think is associated with the head gasket problem. Would a bad head gasket make the Northstar leak oil as well? I had a 98 Dodge Neon and the head gasket was bad on it and it leaked oil as well. After the Neon head gasket was repaired, it stopped leaking oil. My car only has 79,000 miles on it, so I think it is worth the repair. Does the transmission usually fail after the head gasket goes bad?
Do you have any advice on what I should do?

Are you saying that the timeserts have been installed? I have not seen one repeat failure after thread inserts. If it leaks oil from heads, it is usually in the intake valley. There is no similarity of transmission failure after head gasket failure.

You answered my question. I basically wanted to know if headgasket failure occurs after the timeserts are installed. I have not had the timeserts installed yet, but I will have them installed shortly.

I am not sure where the oil leak is coming from, it does not leak a lot of oil, but there is a stain in the driveway each time I drive it.

I did not know the Northstar was so much trouble. The car is 12 years old, but it only has 79K. The car has been pampered, therefore I guess the headgasket failure is a design flaw steming from Cadillac Motor Division.

I am willing to spend $3500.00 to have it fixed, however if it is more than $3500.00 I guess I will look for another Cadillac.

Chances are, and I am giving you worst case, that the lower crankcase is leaking.
