1994 Park Avenue Won't Start - each time

Hello. I have a 1994 Buick Park Avenue Ultra with a 3800 Super Charged. The car has 58,400 miles on it and for the most parts looks and runs (when it runs) like new. So here's the problem.

Sometimes when I turn the car on, I get all of the dash lights and such, but the car doesn't turn-over / start. Basicly nothing happens. Now I was told be a friend, that I could leave the key in the on position for 8 - 10 minutes, and then turn it off, then try it, and it should work... Well that does work, that's the good news.

The bad is, it seems to be taking longer each time I have to do this. After doing it, I can go 10 - 30 times starting the car like nothing every happened, but then, back to no start.

Now the only thing I've noticed is the security light seems to stay on when ever this happens, and when leaving the key turned on, once that light goes out, I can re-start the car.

Do I need a new ignition switch or what?

Karl

PS PLEASE feel free to call me toll free if you have other questions or the ANSWER to this issue, as being an on the road salesman, and many time 2 - 4 hours away from home when this happens... Well this isn't a good thing.

My wife and family tell me to get a new car... We'll see.

I love this car. It's the 3rd one I've owned (my first one had 331,000 TROUBLE free miles on it. And if not for the frame and such, I'd still be driving it.

Had a similar problem, in a 1995 park avenue, my chip fell out of my key, would NOT start without it, security light would come on, and it wasn't going anywhere, ended up getting a key and key switch from a wreck, maybe the chip is bad? Or the security system is malfunctioning, I bypassed mine until I could find a key, though I'm not sure I can tell you how to do that on here. Hope this is somewhat informitive.
