Hello,

I just replaced the battery in my 2002 BMW X5. After sitting overnight, it would not start. Jumped the vehicle and it started but barely. It is also making a whistling noise when the engine revs.

A friend suggested it might be the alternator because it is still sluggish in starting.

Thank you for your help.

Your friend is possibly correct. Check the voltage at the battery and lift the hood and listen for the whistling noises source. Battery voltage should be about 13.8 - 14.2 volts with the engine running and the lights on.
