Yes, engine cleaners work to some degree, but won't work well unless you have a high pressure washer. PLEASE, make sure not to hit electrical components too hard as well as injectors. Too many times I have seen people ruin parts that way. They clean the engine and then it develops a misfire. Ugh.
As far as the injectors, I'm not to talk about products by name because people may think we are getting paid to endorse them. That couldn't be farther from the truth. We are not. I can tell you this, I have had injector issues in the past. A can of seafoam injector cleaner usually works for me.
As far as brakes, I always use Raybestos. Years and years ago, when I was learning to work on cars, my shop teacher always said use a good brand. He mentioned that name, and I have always used them. Never a problem. I assure you there are other brands which are good: Bendix, Wagner.
