I have a 2001 A4 Quatro 2.8. I bought it new and and it burns 1Qt oil/3000 miles since new. It now has 77,000 miles on it and is running fine otherwise.

I have never owned a vehicle that burned any oil between 3000/ mile oil changes. Some have had 150K plus miles.

I have called every Audi Dealership in my area and they all say the this engine "uses" oil and that my consumption rate is actually low for that engine. I love this car and plan on keeping it for a while and don't plan on having to replace an engine anytime soon.

Sould I be worrying? Any Audi Technical Service Bullitins on the 2.8?

1qt. In 3K miles would be within what the manufacturer considers normal. Having said that I feel your concern and when I tell my BMW customers that BMW considers 1.5qts in 1000 miles normal, I am greeted with less than a happy customer. I might suggest switching to a heavier viscosity lubricant and/or a different brand and see if that helps.
