Battery light on, lot of oil on alternator, but the battery light goes out when revved up to 2500 rpm. Installed rebuilt alternator and charges great but battery light still on. Called 800 number talked to tech said faulty alternator. So I got another same problem. The battery light stays on when disconnected from alternator.

If there is a lot of oil on alternator and same would be on belt. Clean oil off engine and around area then replace belt and tension-er and see what you have. Oil destroys modern belts. Also, clean all pulleys belt comes in contact with use either choke cleaner or brake clean to do it.
