My name is Mai, I own a 1993 850 GLT Volvo, like my other cars I usually like to perform maintenance and usually gather information before I even get started. I bought this car back in October and its due for maintenance. The Service light came on and I need to reset it after service is done, the question is, would I be able to do it, is there a switch to reset it or do I need to take it to the garage?

Welcome to the forum. You should be able to reset the SRI (service reminder indicator light) by using the DLC (data link connector). It is located in the passenger side front of the engine compartment.

Turn the ignition to the on position.

Remove the cover to reveal the socket and button.
Install the diagnostic connector in socket 7.

Depress the button on the DLC 4 times.

When the light emmitting diode (LED) is lit the system is ready to be reset.

Depress the button once and wait for the LED to light again.

Depress the button 5 times and wait for the LED to light again.

Depress the button once again and wait for the LED to light again.

Turn the ignition off.

Reastart the engine to be sure The SRI is out.
