Cranks but won't start until I pull the positive battery cable and wait a literal ten minutes then putting it back on. It starts right up. Runs fine normally has good pickup on hills, shifts like it should, replaced one coil pak, and plugs and wires. Has happened 3 times now, each time about a week apart. Replaced TPS. Tranny was radically downshifting and back up to fourth. No problem since. Idle was jumping up and back down racing to 4000rpms when engine warmed up but went away as soon as idle set screw was lowered. Now runs nice at 800rpms. First time it wouldn't start it was towed, and at least an hour and half past since I had tried to crank it; tow truck driver hopped in and cranked it but nothing happened as before, wouldn't start. Next morning I pulled the battery cable and fiddled around and then put it back on and it started right up.

driver suggested the contacts in the plug for the mass air flow sensor. Can't find a shop manual to check voltage on MAS. Another forum suggested hard wiring the connectors to the sensors bypassing the connectors. Had autozone do a code check but no codes appeared on the day I tested it. Also no check engine light, it worked when the idle jumped up and down radically. ?

Sounds like you are having a problem with the ECM (the computer) This is a big assumption and requires alot of diagnosis but one thing you can try is when your vehicle doesn't start try tapping on the floor on the passenger side (on firewall) whuile cranking. Check to make sure that the ECM is on this side as I'm not to familiar with the models prior to 1999!

Goodluck!

Just thought of someting. Flip up the back seat and undo the cover for the fuel pump access check the four screws that hold this cover for corrosion (2 of these screws also hold 2 sets of grounds (for pump and computer.
