I have a 1996 F-150 2 wheel drive with an inline 6 cylinder. The engine cranks but will not start. I have replaced the following: spark plugs and wires, distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter. Fuel pump runs when ignition is on and I have spark at the number one plug. Could I still have a problem with the coil or the electronic ignition coil? Please help need truck to for work.

If you have spark on number 1 let's assume that is okay for now. It could be out of time so if it is popping through the intake when starting we need to jump to checking timing. However, I suspect you have a fuel pressure issue. Just because the pump is running does not mean it is supplying fuel to the rail. So this means we need to try and start the engine on starter fluid. If it starts then we need to measure fuel pressure.

Basically your engine needs fuel, compression and spark at the correct time in order to run. So we need to check these things one at a time. If you have spark, let's jump past that and check fuel. If it does not start with starter fluid then we need to measure compression.

Here is a guide that runs through the basics that we are talking about in this post:

Run through all this material and let me know what you find. Thanks
