I have a 1998 F-150 4.6L, auto trans, 4WD, with 140,000. The front axle would not engage, I checked the fuses, OK. Check the front axle, and noticed the soleinod or plunger would not move. The transfer case works OK and shifts into and out of low gear. Should I remove the this plunger unit and bench check? Is it 12V? Thank you, rnd.

The auto-engagement feature on these vehicles do fail. After spending 5 years in Montana with winter temps below -30F, If you ever go offroading and this failure occurs, you would dream of the ability to exit the vehicle, lock in manual hubs, and go on your merry way. I have done this conversion over 100 times. But if you just drive to church on Sundays, the autolock is a wonderful feature.
Don't get csught up to your axles in the woods or snow with a non-functioning 4X4.

Yes, I do go off road. It failed on a recent fishing trip in the High Sierra's. So, what is the conversion, appox. Cost. I am in SoCal, we have 4 wheel drive parts stores. I use it in 4wd at least 3 times a month. Thanks, rnd.
