1993 Cutlass cierra exhaust issue

I have a 1993 Cutlass Cierra S 3.3 with approx. 158,000 miles. I was on my way to work and my car began to make a really really deep roaring noise. I noticed a clanking noise very shortly after. Anyhow, I got out and check the car, and my new muffler (7 months old) is still intact, but my exhaust pipe was broken in half.

It is broken about 6 inches from the cat. Converter. It seems somewhat rigid and dark around the break points. What I want to know is: can I drive it to a repair shop like this, or could I patch it w/ a pipe clamp? Also, is it possible w/ the right dremel tool to replace this myself?

Any advice on this subject is appreciated.

Hello:

I have a 91 cierra and have had to replace the muffler myself, I thought it would be easy but ended up taking me a couple of days, I had a liminted amount of tools, and had to go out and buy some torches to get all the parts off.I would suggest getting it fixed by a pro, it will be more money but less aggrivasion, you could try patching it but it will most like not last a long time.

As for driving it without the muffler attached, . Go for it, but make sure there are no noise laws on vehicles, . When I had my muffler off I drove to work one day and was pulled over by the police for a loud vehicle, . He let me off with a warning. But it will not hurt your engine.

Hope this helps
