Hi we have just rebuilt the engine in our car now we have it back in and cant get it to start. The battery sounds like it is flat even after buying a brand new one. After two cranks the battery is flat again. Please help we have been trying to start the car for three days now. We have replaced the battery the carby and still cant get it to start. The engine is tight and cannot be turned by hand.

Hi there,

make sure all the battery cables are clean and tight, check that the main engine earth strap is secured and tight. Remove spark plugs and spin motor by hand will it turn? With plugs still out crank over to get up oil pressure before starting. If starter is old, it will not cope with the tight motor, Get it O/Hauled. Check for voltage at starter cable, after cranking is it warm or hot to touch, if so check starter.
