Air filter issue

I know the issue isn't my air filter itself, but a cylinder type piece that is connected to it with a tube. The cylinder has two tubes on bottom, and one on top that leads to the filter. When the engine is on the cylinder screeches, and it caused my engine to stall out. I took off the top tube, and I cleared out some debris. There was a metal wire catch that seemed a bit clogged, and cleared the net with a small Allen wrench that fit in the holes. After the screech went away, and the car could start. I want to replace this piece, but I don't know what it's called.

Good afternoon,

Can you upload a picture of what you see?

Okay, the hose that should go on that is from the back of the valve cover. I see it in the picture but it disappears behind the valve cover. Follow that hose. It is a breather line.

I did take the hose off to see if there was more debris, but it is currently on the piece. I'm searching online for a breather line, but do you know the name of the piece that the tube connects to?

Okay, I don't know the exact name of the part but it may not be bad.

You need to just hook up the hose that belongs there. It is just standard hose that attaches for the breather.

Try hooking it up first and see what happens.

Well, I drove home with it connected. Quieter than it has been for a long time. Only that the engine temperature gauge climbed all the way to the hot needle.

Okay, that is a separate issue.

Did you follow the guide I sent you for the items to check?

I peeked at man, but I never had a heat issue with the car until I played with that hose today to stop the screeching. Even last week which had a heat index 110°.

Okay, but you do now and have to find the issue.

Am I incorrect for assuming the two are connected? Could replacing the air filter on principle and this piece the hose connects to just solve the issue? I've looked through the guide you gave me. Not sure where to begin aside from what I know was causing a problem.

No they are not the same. They are separate issues as I stated.

Start with checking the coolant and checking for leaks.
