Air conditioning problem

The air conditioning blows much warmer on the drivers side. I took it to the dealer and they stated it was blowing cold on both sides. The problem doesn’t occur all of the time and is less pronounced on cooler days. I am suspecting a blend door actuator issue. While there is plenty online regarding the older Acadia, there is nothing regarding the new model. Anyone have any ideas or know where the actuators are located?

Good evening,

Did you get the response I sent you on the actuator?

Good. I wanted to be sure you got the information. It is under the left side of the dash.

Thanks. I’ll see what I can figure out. I’m guessing what the issue is but it sounds like that’s the issue.

I was able to find it. It’s not exactly in an easy to work area. I was able to watch it while I changed the temperature and I can see it operating. The door moves as I change the temperature and I can see the actuator move. The temperature on the drivers side is still significantly warmer than the passenger side. It’s cool but not cold like the other side. If it’s moving when I change the temperature I am thinking this may not be the issue. Even if it is I don’t think I can get my arms in there to remove the screws. There is literally no room. Any other ideas what might cause a temperature difference side to side?

Okay, the next step is the pressures in the AC system.

Do you have a set of gauges to test the high and low side?

No. We are unfortunately getting outside of my range. I can troubleshoot and change parts, but I don’t have a set of gauges. It’s as cold as it should be on the one side. I’d think if it was an issue related to that it would be an issue on both sides. Would it not? I will say that at times, especially when I began using it this season, there was a hissing noise when you first turned the system on. It would go away after around 10-20 seconds. I don’t hear it doing that anymore however.

No, only one side of the evaporator could be working. That's why I need the readings.

What did you do to finally fix this issue? Mine is doing the same thing. I'm trying to use AC the drivers side blowing warm air and passenger side blowing cold. The back seat is also blowing warm.

Good morning,

We do not always hear the final result or repair and whether it worked or not.

What is the vehicle information for your car so I can help. What have you tried and do you have A/C pressure readings?

2017 GMC Acadia SLE having exact same issue: cold air that responds to changes in commanded temperature out of both louvers on passenger dash, but air from driver dash is only slightly cooled from ambient and doesn’t respond to changes in commander temperature (same air temperature blows out whether at LO or 78). Both sides respond equally and correctly to commanded fan speed.

Unfortunately, I too have no access to pressure gauges. Any resolution to previous poster’s issues? Any new thoughts?

I need to see the pressures to help you.

You can rent a set or buy a cheap set for this test.

No, we never did hear back on the resolution.

Hello Everyone,

I am also experiencing this sort of weird conundrum. A/C is blowing colder on the passenger side but ambient air is felt on the driver and rear seats.

I was able to have guy read my pressure and it seemed to be within normal range per his opinion. I believe the pressure was 33 psi if I am not mistaken. I recharged the system using a recharge system purchased at a local auto zone and added Freon to 40 psi on 18 August 2020.

This seemed to be a temporary solution as the issue returned today on 28 August 2020. However only the driver side air became cold, the rear seats still had ambient air.

There seems to be a hissing sound when the A/C is on in the cabin, not sure if this is usually the case. Haven't paid much attention to it.

I am out of warranty so trying to figure this out before I make the big drop in cash. Any help is appreciated.

I need both readings, the high and the low side while it is running. You cannot tell Freon level by pressures.

To provide a follow up to my original issue, the AC eventually completely stopped working and was blowing hot. I went back to the dealer and stated that I had complained about the issue on several occasions and now it had completely failed. They recharged the system and it has been fine ever since. Not sure why it occurred and oddly enough it’s been fine since. They also repaired it for free out of warranty which makes me believe this wasn’t the first time they had seen it.

Freon does not evaporate at all. It leaks out.

If you were out of Freon and they did not find the leak, it will leak out again and you will be in the same position.

Did they repair any leaks?

Doesn't seem to be a leak as now it randomly is working again. I wonder if this will be an overall issue they have been noticing. I do recall the older Acadia's having issues with A/C evaporators and clogs in the lines.

Nope, not at all. It leaked out. You have a leak and it will show again and when it does, someone needs to find the leak so it does not happen again.

I have had the same Freon in my system for 5 years and it works 100%.

They didn’t repair any leaks and couldn’t find any. It’s been over a year and it still seems fine. I understand that makes no sense. I am concerned it will occur again but so far so good.
