The check engine light was on, I took to dealer for service; it was a short in fuel pressure sensor. It took 4 hours to be replaced and the check engine light went off. I started the car later and it turned back on. i was told that it is normal it needs to reset.

Hi,

If the light went off after the repair, it shouldn't have turned back on. Oftentimes, the codes need deleted or erased after repairs, but if it was off when you got it, it sounds like that was done.

Here is what I need you to do. We need to determine if the same code has returned or if there is a new one. Here is a link that explains how it's done. However, if you take it to a parts store, most will do it free of charge.

Here is the link:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/can-scan-controller-area-network-easy

Let me know what code has set the light to turn on. Also, if you look at your receipt, it should have the original code or codes found. It should start with the letter P followed by 4 numbers.

Take care and I'll watch for your reply.

Hi,

With your neighbor's scanner, clear the code and see if it returns. If it does, then the manufacturer is responsible for repairing it. If you want, I attached the diagnostics below for this vehicle. Take a look through them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them. Also, be careful because a dealership may give you a hard time if something fails. If they know you worked on it, they could decline a repair.

Let me know what you find or if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe

I called Chevrolet service this morning, they told me that the computer will reset after a number of drive cycles. I don't know how true that is. thanks for the help on this matter.

Hi,

If power was removed, there is a drive cycle that goes through to test different circuits. However, it shouldn't turn the check engine light on until something fails; especially since the light was off when you got it and it came back on.

If the vehicle is running properly, entertain their idea. See if it goes off. Hopefully, it will, but since it turned itself back on, I suspect it won't.

Or you could try clearing the code with the scan tool to see if it turns back on. If it does, then suspect the problem still exists.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

Honestly, a day off has to be spent at the dealership. Ugh! Remember, they have three chances to fix it. One down already. If they can't fix an issue with the fuel pressure sensor, it could cause issues that may put you in danger.

If that is the case, after three attempts, you can claim the Lemon Law and force GM to buy back the vehicle.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Take care and good luck.

That's what I thought. They didn't fix the problem. They may believe they did, but something different may be causing it.

I look forward to hearing the results.

wanted to update you.
I'm really ticked off, I brought car to dealer this morning. I sat there for 3 hours service person told me it's going to be a while they are busy; we will call you with an update. so, i left i called them about 5:00pm and they told me they had not even looked at the car yet. I'm really considering bringing it to a local mechanic i feel they are messing with me because the car is under warranty, and they don't want to be bothered. maybe I'm wrong.

Hi,

Hang in there. Even if it is a warranty repair, they get paid by the manufacturer. Did they let you know if they can get to it tomorrow?

Let me know.

Hi,

What are they waiting for? Did they indicate they found an issue? Please make sure you point out the extended cranking required.

I feel for you. If I had a new vehicle like this, I would be so upset.

Keep me in the loop. Also, I hope you have a nice 4th.

They said the fuel pump needs to be replaced, so they ordered one, but they indicated they have no idea when it will come in. That frustrates me.

I'm not sure why a fuel pump would be delayed. Here is what I suggest. Give them a few days. If they don't get one, contact a zone rep / customer service at GM and tell them of all the issues you have had. Tell them you are waiting for a fuel pump and they can't seem to get it.

You should be able to find the 800 number in the rear of the vehicle owner's manual. If you can't, let me know and I find it for you.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

When you spoke with customer relations, did they offer any help? If not, be firm and say you need help because the dealership isn't getting it for you.

As far as the part number, there is a high-pressure pump and a lift pump in the tank. I attached the part numbers below. One is for a convertible, so unless that is what you have, you can eliminate that one.

Let me know if that helps.

Take care,

joe

I was on phone with GM for an hour, that just kept telling me that there is a part shortage and cannot give me a time frame they can't do anything more at the moment. really frustrating, i have been calling local repair shops up on the matter as well. i have a ss convertible. question, can either one be used because the non-convertible part seems to be available to be sent to dealer? There's a dealer by me that can get this part the 1271161.

Hi,

The idea that the part number is different for the convertible, I suspect the fuel tank is set up differently because it's a convertible. So, I have to say no.

As far as the part number you attached, it is for a convertible SS with the LT1 engine. Is that what you have? According to GM parts giant, it will. See pic below and confirm I put in all the correct information.

Just to let you know you have given me more help and info than GM themselves they seem not to care. i do understand that part must be ordered and there is a parts shortage, but i feel they are not concerned and doing enough to help me. All i get are apologies and try again this week for mor info or updates they said.

Anthony,

All I can say is the world has changed. Everyone feels entitled to everything but don't want to work hard, be helpful, or care. I wish I was there near you. I would figure it out one way or another.

Do me a favor. Send me the last 8 digits of your VIN. I have a few friends that may be able to find what is needed.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Hi,

They want to mark up the cost. That's why they don't want you to bring your own parts. Most shops get discounts from part suppliers. Then they can charge you retail or more and make extra money.

I'm going to see if I can get more info tomorrow for you. The dealership near me opens at 8, but I won't be able to get back to you until evening. Hopefully, they will be able to tell me if the one needed truly is on backorder. That's why I needed the VIN. That way we can be certain of the correct part.

Take care,

Joe

I received a return call from the Chevrolet dealer in NJ, he told me that my car takes two fuel pumps, one on engine and one in tank, does that seem right? One pump he has but the other he would need to order that might take a while since there is parts problem. thanks

Hi,

Yes, there is a lift pump in the fuel tank and a high-pressure pump under the hood. I referenced that on July 15th. By chance do you know which one is the issue? Did the dealer in NJ tell you which would be delayed?

GM called me earlier today and said they are going to put this through their delayed or expedited department, so we'll see.
