The engine is overheating, and we think its the thermometer not being able to open properly is there a way to know what the exact problem is without spending to much money

Hi there,

Have the thermostat changed, this is fairly cheap, make sure that the cooling fans are working when it gets up to temp, if this is all ok and you still are getting hot, have the radiator checked for blockage, and get the radiator cap & the cooling system pressure tested as well, start here.
