When driving, there are times I press on the gas and the car doesn't respond until I press it down harder then the car just takes off, it jumps up to another gear per say.

Hi,

When it doesn't seem to respond, do you notice if the engine RPM's are going up at all? Is there any change in the engine sound?

Also, is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running? If it is, you should have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a quick video showing how it's done:

I realize most people don't own a scan tool. However, most parts stores will do it for free. If the engine light stays on, have that done and let me know what codes are retrieved.

Let me know.

I had a recall on the vehicle on the shifter set-up. The Toyota dealership fixed the recall and gave a full diagnostic of the vehicle. 2 things they picked up, the muffler pipe had an exhaust leak and the shifter was a bit cracked once they opened it up. I fixed the exhaust pipe with a brand new one. For the shifter crack, they said it should be fine as long as I don't shift it hard.
Could the crack on the inside of the shifter be a future issue?

Hi,

First, I'm glad to hear you got it taken care of. As far as the shifter, anything is possible. However, a long time ago, I was taught to never fix something that isn't broken. LOL If it is working, just be easy on it. I'm sure it will be fine.

Take care of yourself and feel free to come back in the future if you have questions.

Take care,
Joe
