Engine just shut down while driving down the road and dashboard lights came on like it would when you turn key to on position. There was not any kind of noise like anything broke or come apart the engine just shut down. I coasted to a stop and when tried to crank it the starter just spins but will not engage flywheel. I know engine shutting down itself could be several things and the starter not engaging flywheel could be several things but both happening at same time has got me stumped. I have not tried to fix it yet but will do it myself if I can get some help with what may be wrong with it. Would rather have some advice before I just start trying to go it alone. Don't really have the extra money to take it to a shop.
thanks Craig

the starter drive may have broken on the starter if engine not turning over o rif you hear like loud clunk see if engine is seized.then scan for codes and check fuelpressure with a gauge.

it wouldn't do that as far as shutting it off that is why I said to scan for codes and check fuelpressure with a gauge autoparts rent the gauge
