Okay, so, my boyfriend just had the head machined on his truck listed above. Got it all back together and truck was running awesome. Well, he had to go to a different town about 45 minutes away... On the way back he got it on interstate and was cruising at 65 because he didn't want to push it hard... Then all of a sudden it started knocking and then shut down completely... Thankfully was able to get it towed home because it did this only fifteen miles from the house... Oh, also he didn't lose any oil... But could it be timing chain or maybe a rod?

Yes, it can be either, sorry about that, can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so I can hear the noise? That way I can tell for sure what's going on. You can upload it here with your response. Did the head get a valve job? If so, it could have dropped a valve due to it not being installed correctly. To tell for sure let's remove the spark plug and do a compression test. Also look at each spark plug, it can give you a clue on which cylinder had a problem.

Please run down this guide and report back.
