After driving on the highway at speed limit for a good amount of time, when a turn comes that I need I slow down like normal to take the turn. Well after making the turn, the traction control light turns on and off by itself and says service the stabilitrack system. Went to Walmart which is less than a mile away from home and it did it, then I came to a stop light went to take off after it turned green and I had it in auto due the snow and wet grounds and the 4hi light turned on. Got home put it in N, tried to put it back in auto and it skips auto and goes straight to 4hi, same thing when I put it in 2 wheel to auto, it skips auto and goes straight to 4hi, can someone explain this to me please.

Hi,

The reason it doesn't want to go into automatic is most likely because you have a bad wheel speed sensor, low brake fluid, or something is happening with the ABS system. The traction control (auto) depends on knowing what the speeds of each wheel is all the time. If one isn't working properly, it won't function.

What I need you to do is have the computer scanned. By doing this, we can determine if there is an issue with a wheel speed sensor or it's something different. Also, and don't laugh, make sure the brake fluid isn't low. It can cause all kinds of issues. Additionally, let me know if the brake light is coming on or ABS when the stability light comes on.

Here is a quick video showing how to scan a computer:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but most parts stores will do it for free. My only concern is if they will have a scanner that can read codes related to this type of issue. I do have procedures for testing wheel speed sensors without a scanner, but the problem is it seems intermittent. If that is the case, it may check good and then fail later. If there is a stored code, it will tell use what wheel or component caused an issue.

Do this and let me know what you find. Also, let me know if there are any other symptoms such as the speedometer not working properly, the ABS actuating when not needed, or anything you can think of that may help me diagnose.

Please feel free to let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

Yesterday after getting home I stayed home for a while and had to run to a buddies house, went out and fired the truck up and it was fine. Went into auto no problem, but the stabilitrac issue still happens. On my way home from my buddies the check engine light came on but the truck still ran just fine. When I bought the truck it did have a bad wheel bearing, I got it replaced but I'm now starting to think there was more than 1 bad wheel bearing. I'm hearing a light growl or grinding sound when I let off the gas. 4x4 works fine now, I'm baffled and ready to figure out what the issue is, I have had the truck for about 7 days and all these problems keep happening and the dealership will not help me anymore.

There is also a tire pressure sensor light on. I'm assuming since the wheel bearing went out because it's that same side, the front right. All in all, I think I bought a lemon and the dealership is just letting me hang there with no help.

The tire pressure light is most likely a bad sensor mounted on the inside one of the rims. The sensor is actually part of the valve stem where you add air. That is easily replaced. They have a built in battery which last about 5 years. I have a TMPS scanner to check for several things including a signal from each sensor. That is how I determine if there is and issue with a sensor and which one it is.

As far as the wheel bearing, it is possible that is causing the issue. Since the check engine light came on, you should have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. It may indicate where the problem is and make it easy to fix. Most parts stores will scan it at no charge, so give that a try.

Since the engine is still running properly and the light came on, I suspect it is related to the issues you are experiencing or something related to an EVAP issue. Have it scanned and let me know what you find.

I'll do my best to help. I'm not there, so it makes it a bit more difficult, but usually I can get it figured out from here.

Take care,
Joe
