Hello, car was stalling intermittently. Ultimately did not start anymore. Battery is brand new, battery has been tested at two shops, starter was removed and tested at two shops, works perfectly, starter relay was replaced with a brand new one. Car will still not crank, turnover. Only thing I could think of is the crankshaft sensor as suggested by a friend. I had a Land Rover ten years ago with similar issue, car would not crank, starter would not turn whatsoever, and it up being crankshaft sensor. I know my car has one, could this be the culprit of the car not turning, cranking? Again, the battery is perfect, fully charged, starter is perfectly working, brand new starter relay. And where is this part located? Is it near the two dipsticks on the right front of the engine? Or is it in the rear? Or is it on the left-hand side near the AC compressor? Your help would be greatly appreciated. :-)

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

I need to better understand what is happening. A bad crankshaft sensor will set a code indicating there is a problem. Have you checked for trouble codes? Here is a quick video on how to use a scanner:

Next, a bad crank sensor will not prevent the starter from engaging and turning the engine. It will cause it not to start, but not to turn over. Is that what is happening, the engine turns but will not actually start?

If the starter does nothing, there are several possible issues. First, since you have confirmed that the starter is good and the relay is new, have you checked all main fuses under the hood. Also, will it start in neutral?

I have attached a wiring schematic of the starting system and the main fuse that allows power to the relay. Check those things first and let me know what you find.

Take care,
Joe
